Week 2

Week 2 is in the books, welcome to your latest and greatest newsletter mi amigos!

Game Recaps:

I Am McLovin 2 DogBalls 0: I am McLovin' it! This team has come out to play, putting away their past two opponents in closely contested matchups. Look for the DogBalls to try and bounce back this week, and to continue their strong showing at the Flip Cup table.
Morningwood 13 Drunkaroos 3: Hopefully the 'Roos made up for this loss by pounding many-a-brewski back in the bar. You do not want to remember a score like that, let me tell you. Morningwood continues where they left off from last season, will the DogBalls step up and knock their blocks off this week? We'll have to wait and see!
The Playground Bullies 1 Bagpipers 0 (forfeit): I guess the BP's felt intimidated by the Bullies' ability to bbq and play kickball simultaneously and decided to throw up the white flag instead. Better luck next week guys!
Everlasting Gobstoppers 1 Afternoon Delight 9: Wowza! Look at Afternoon Delight, comin' on strong after their bye week. This could be the dark horse team of our league, time will tell. Tough luck for the EG's, hopefully they can get it together later in the season.
PODYatrists 5 Menace 2 Sobriety 3: Check out those hot PODY's, bouncing back from an early season defeat with a confincing win over Menace 2 Sobriety. M2S tied the game up after an early scoring drive by the PODY's, but the PODY's came back and capped their win off with a few late inning runs. Expect M2S to try and regroup against Afternoon Delights this week in a heated contest.
Sunkiss Our Balls 4 SF Natives 1: My squad held their own against the Natives and their tribal witchcraft for a solid win. I missed most of the game, and didn't really contribute much when I was there (although I did pitch in at the flip cup table). It was a low scoring, but highly spirited contest for sure. The Natives get a break this weekend to try and polish off their game plan.

Seventh Inning Stretch:

Ballers, this week's S.I.S. section is all about me helping you. That's right, I'm going all Jerry Maguire on your collective asses. So, for all yous guys and girls out there looking to score a few Natural Game Enhancements, NGE's, let me pass unto you some tips I gleamed from many a drunken Sunday afternoon last season.

1. Sort of like rule numero uno in Fight Club; we do not talk about the embarrassing things that happen during kickball, outside of kickball! This enhances the experience for everyone. No one wants their drunken antics publicized outside their circle of friends, so lets keep it in the Trust-Tree gang!
2. Tempers may flare, and tantrums will be thrown, but at the end of the day, we all need to realize we're viciously competing in a children's kindergarten game! Suck up your pride, shake hands, cheer each other on, and toss your foe a beer. You might even make a few friends.
3. Drinking is encouraged, and is the best game enhancer ever invented. Drinking beer will also allow you to feel less pain when you strike out, miss that pop fly, or hit your head on your dresser.
4. Wear sunscreen, because if you follow rule number 3 religiously, you're bound to pass out in the park at some point this season!
5. Go to the bar! Yes, people are gonna hang around the field a bit longer this season because now there's a flip cup table on the field, but more often than not, the weather is gonna be poopy-in-the-park, and you'll wanna go someplace where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. That place is Che... Kezar Pub!
6. Fraternize with your opponents; they might give away their team's weaknesses in conversation. Plus it'll make it easier for you to tease them later when you're up against 'em in flip cup.
7. Seniority RULES! There are a few teams that have been in this league before, get to know them, and you'll probably get the inside scoop on parties and hangouts that go on outside of kickball.
8. Bring some food or water for yourself, it'll improve your stamina so you can go a couple of extra innings at the bar. Oh, and for your own saftey, spicey/mexican food mixed with beer is not a good combination! I mean, it might taste great going down and all, but the next day is a whole different story! You've been forewarned.
9. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT plan any errands or activities on Sundays! You're soon gonna find out, if you haven't already, that you barely get anything done anymore on Sundays now that kickball season is in full force. That's simply because more often than not, you're a waste of space by the time you leave the field or bar. Which typically means you had a pretty great time. So why ruin that by doing important stuff? Get it done before you come, that's my motto. That and everybody Wang Chung tonight.
10. Take public transit. For starters, because then you can drink more. Secondly, because Sunday's are busy in Golden Gate, and with the summer approaching, it'll get even harder to find parking. So either carpool, take the bus, trams, cabs, trollies or ride your bike. Trust me, you're gonna see a lot more out of state license plates jamming up our park soon, don't say I didn't warn you.
11. Hey, we should mate! Or at least hang out more often! Get to know your teammates better by hanging out away from the kickball field during the week, it'll definitely make playing together a lot more fun!
12. Leave your game on the field. Don't be a poor sport, when the game's said and done for, suck back a beer and get your butt to the bar! There's no crying in Kickball!
13. This may be the last rule, but its no less important from the others; bribing the newsletter guy is highly encouraged. However you wanna suck up to me is cool, I'm an equal opportunity kinda guy.

Periodical Prognostications:

1. Since the schedule changed a few times last week and Sleazy never got to earn their comeback win, I'm gonna go ahead and say they get the job done this week.
2. Speaking of team's with bye weeks, what about those newcomers the Afternoon Delights!? Talk about a solid opening! Expect another one in the win column for that squad this weekend.
3. I was pretty surprised by some of the high scores the other day, especially since it was super windy at the park. With warmer, less windy weather this upcoming weekend, expect the scoring trend to continue.
4. My "out of left field" prediction for the week: a rag-tag band of rookies out shine team Morningwood at cheering.
5. My "best bet" prediction: 6 people suggest Quotes of the Week to me in loud, drunken, incoherent English at the bar then forget to e-mail me later.

Weekly Poll:

Sarah of team Morningwood suggested this past Sunday that we have a league wide game of "drunk-drunk-goose." This is sort of like the childhood game of duck-duck-goose we all know (and threw up during), except when the incumbent Goose selects one of the "drunks" in the circle to be the new Goose, they give chase, while both players are rapidly downing their beers. If you'd be for or against some league DDG action, let your vote be counted in our weekly poll up on the right side of this page!

Be afraid; San Francisco will burn to the ground!

Kickballers of the Week:

Just some background information on this section: your CAPTAINS select 1 guy and 1 girl they think has put forth the best efforts for their team each week, and also come across as well-rounded, fun individuals (sending in their submissions Sunday Night or before 9PM on Monday). Thereafter, I choose through the myriad of nominations and reasonings, posting the best 1 guy and 1 girl from the pile each week. That's how it works. No one team member from any squad will be featured more than once, and hopefully, no team will have more than 2 players (one male, the other female) featured all season. Whew, okay, without further adieu, here are your Kickballers of the Week:

Natasha Barrett of team Menace 2 Sobriety is one of this week's Kickballers of the Week! Natasha posts to M2S's games early to help out and leaves late. "She's a dedicated player" says Michelle Leung, and they're lucky to have her!

Charlie Blaha of team Sunkiss Our Balls is the other Kickballer of the Week! Charlie's been handling the pitching for our gang of ballers, and always has something good to say or add to our squad. Being one of several new and quality members of our team, Charlie's been working his way into the lineup nicely.

2. Alpha Bar this week is at Bus Stop at 8PM off Union St, be there!
3. Be nice to the staff at Kezar Pub, if there's ever an issue, grab Jeremiah or Sarah to resolve it, before acting on your own!
4. Sarah will be in the park at 1:30PM this Sunday handing out T-shirts, if you don't have one, this is the time to get yours.
5. Just so you all know, our board members for this season are as follows below:

Once again, fantastic job on the website Charles. How about being a little less humble and talking about the 3 Long Island Ice Teas I saw you drinking ... granted, you were pawning off the second two, but I didn't see any takers, and I didn't see you just "abandon" them. Impressive display of skill.
