Week 5

Talk about a weekend to remember, or try to piece together at least! A kick-ass bar crawl followed up with a crazy pirate affliated day of kickball in the park/bar? What could be better! Lets take a stroll down memory lane and a look back at this past week shall we?

Game Recaps:

Morningwood 1 I Am McLovin 0 (forfeit): McLovin was out to lunch this Sunday and forgot there was a game going on in the park I guess. That is really too bad, cause someone needs to beat Morningwood this season. I cannot handle having to hear that team chant anymore! Thank goodness they're flip cup skills are suspect - that's right I'm calling you guys out - so they aren't better than the league at everything.
Playground Bullies 1 Drunkaroos 2: Headlines read: the Bullies Bow Down to the New Kids on the Block! The Roos are no longer just the upstarts, and have proved their mettle with a tough win against the PB's! This was a tight matchup, and a hard fought game from start to finish. Look for the Bullies to bounce back and the Roos to keep racking 'em up in the win column.
SF Natives 9 3/4 Dogballs (-6)(-1)/3: Since I never got a game recap I figured I'd make up a score and write the recap myself: The SF Natives showed up looking to lick the Dogballs clean (which weirded everyone out), but were in for quite an afternoon. The DB's almost sent the Natives packing back to wherever the hell they're from, but before they could, someone threw an empty on the field and 20 G.G. Park bums rushed after it. Pandamonium broke out, and evidently the Dogballs pitcher was trampled and had to be carried off on a stretcher. The game resumed, but without their starter the DB's couldn't compete and burnt out like a bag of flaming dog poop.
Sunkiss Our Balls 3 Menace 2 Sobriety 2: Congrats to M2S for ruining Sunkiss' chances at a shutout in the final inning with a terrific homerun. Tough break on the loss however. Great play all around for Team Sunkiss in this matchup. Sunkiss also won 3 pitchers at the end of the day for being the most spirited and decked out Pirates this past Sunday.
Sleazy Bandeezee 3 The Bagpipers 5: The Bagpipers totally redeemed themselves for their paper forfeit with a quality win, over a once perennial power. Can the Bagpipers keep the trend going? Will Sleazy bounce back in time for a quality playoff birth? Will SNL ever be funny again!? Nobody knows! But I'll tell you what I do know, Bay to Breakers is gonna be off the hook!
PODYatrists 1 Afternoon Delights 0 (forfeit): The PODY's snag the easy win away from the AD's who also forgot that Sunday is the holy day of kickball. It says so in the Bible. Look it up if you don't believe me! Anywho, congrats to the PODY's... Afternoon Delights (and anyone else who's forfeitted) you better get your act together if you wanna make the playoffs!

Seventh Inning Stretch:

To make room for my ridiculous photos this week (we've got nearly 400 pics in our picasa album) I'm gonna take it easy on the eyes with this week's SIS section. Besides, if you came out to the bar crawl on Saturday or kickball on Sunday then you know what went down. For all of those who didn't however, take a gander at the pictures in our web album and that I've posted below!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, legends are made at the bar. So if you're gonna peace out early from kickball (or entirely) or skip a league-wide bar crawl, then you might as well not exist!

Check out the Social Chair Section on the right side of the page for a look at what events are going down in town during our 2 week hiatus! We resume play June 1st.

I totally encourage everyone to head out to FISH BOWL this WEDNESDAY at 8:30PM to help out the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and support some fellow kickballers (June and Erica) that'll be behind the bar mixing drinks!

ITS ALSO IMPORTANT TO NOTE: That this is a competitive league, there are rules for every possibly scenario, infraction, whosit and whatsit. If you're new to the league and don't know the rules, go to the WAKA website and check out the rule book. If your team, or you as an individual, get a warning that's the only one you will receive. The next call against your team, or you, will be a penalty against your team (like an automatic base, or ball, or strike, etc). With that said, please observe the rules, ask your captains for insights, or check out the rule book on the WAKA website.

Check out more tips from our league's head refs in the REF'S CORNER this week!

And before I finish, I do wanna send a shout-out to team Morningwood who'll be going up against the Best Coast Ballers from the Gold Rush league on June 1st in the BATTLE OF SAN FRANCISCO! They'll be facing off in a battle of kickball heavy-weights at 3:30 in Golden Gate Park, after all the Week 6 games have concluded. If you're down-like-a-clown to root for the home team, or if you would like to watch Morningwood get their butts handed to them, then stick around to check that game out.

Pointless Predicitions:

  1. Due to our 2 week hiatus Kezar Pub goes out of business.
  2. Sleazy Bandeezee versus the Drunkaroos will be a tough matchup, if you're on the field early (in 2 weeks) check out this game! Advantage goes to the Roos who are coming on strong as of late.
  3. A sporadic and random kickball game breaks out along the Bay to Breakers route with the Vertigo Kickball League having the most player participation.
  4. An improptu kickball game is held in Golden Gate over Memorial Day weekend and all who attend recount the event to their friends as the most amazing game of kickball ever.
  5. Despite Morningwood having a bye in Week 6, they are unofficially handed a loss.
  6. There's at least one forfeit in Week 6, and I pretty much rip that team apart in that week's newsletter - sorry gang, thems the breaks.

Poll of the Week:

What do you think our theme of the week should be for the next time we try it out? Vote in our poll on the right, or leave your suggestion in a comment at the bottom of this blog!

Picture of the Week:

Talk about feeling the love!

Kickballers of the Week:

"Jerica" is this week's female baller(s) of the week. June and Erica of team Sunkiss Our Balls earn the right to be our KOTW because of their team spirit, trash-talking-tenacity, drinking-abilities, and because they're all about supporting a good cause (bartending to raise money for the L.L.S.)! Congrats girls and good luck with the fundraising!

Since no one decided to send me any nominations from their teams I'm kind of at a loss in terms of who to nominate as our male kickballer of the week. Hopefully after the break we can get some more participation.

Ridiculous Photo(s) of the Week:

For all those who thought they were getting off the hook for acting ridiculous this past weekend during the bar crawl and day of kickball, you thought SO wrong!

Hmm, were you trying to give the peace sign, or...?

One of the many portraits of Lindsay.

Yes, I am calling myself out - that was totally innapropriate.

This is definitely not PG-13 material! Oh god, my virgin eyes!

Friends don't let friends go home from bar crawls sober.

I mean if you're going down there, you might as well help your teammate out right!?

Our boy Jeremiah got into the army this past week, which is surprising because he looks like he weighs at least 400lbs in this picture. Hungry there fella?

Flip Cup, the cause and solution to all of life's problems! This is a perfect example of two opponents learning to love one another.

Beer, helping white guys dance for over 300 years. Scott's either showing off his sweet no-handed face plant, or about to bust out his spinning chrome-dome of death.

Quick Kicks:

1) No kickball for 2 weeks! We've got Bay to Breakers this weekend, and Memorial Day next weekend off.
2) Come out THIS WEDNESDAY to help support the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at a Bar Fundraiser taking place at FISH BOWL (off Divisadero between Bush and Pine) starting at 8:3oPM!
3) Check out the other events listed in our Social Chair Section!
4) Join your friends and 99.9% of San Francisco in the Bay to Breakers race this Sunday!
